social什么意思？六月是毕业季，马上要有一批毕业生投入职场，因为疫情原因，他们的毕业和往届完全不一样，找工作难度会加大，下面我们来学习一些英语知识，提高自己的英语水平，为面试时候做准备。英文面试时，有些中文里我们习惯说法，像「社会新鲜人」、「踏入社会」，如果直译成英文，有些听着怪，有些外国人真的不懂。今天来看看职场新鲜人面试中最常犯英文直译的错误：
1. 社会新鲜人
错误：Social freshman
正确：New graduate/ fresh graduate
中文的「社会新鲜人」，如果直接用social freshman，老外应该不懂是什么意思。
Freshman指大学一年级学生。社会新鲜人是大学刚毕业的人，和大一新生无关。刚毕业的人英文可以用new graduate或fresh graduate，其至也可以直接用graduate，而这个字可以简单用grad。
Graduate这个字大家应该很熟，是毕业。在美国大学生没有取得文凭之前读的都叫做undergraduate，所以大学生叫undergraduate，研究所就用graduate school。
来看一个new graduate的例句：
As a new graduate, you could expect to start at around £22,000. 社会新鲜人的起薪大约是22,000英镑。
2. 踏入社会
错误：Enter society
正确：Enter the workforce
大学毕业踏入社会，很多人会用enter the society。但这样讲老外也会一头雾水。我们生下来就在社会上了，中文所谓进入社会，切确一点说是「进入职场」或是「开始工作」，可以用enter the workforce或start working。职场英文可以用workforce，这个字本来是「劳动力」、「劳动人口」，大家可能知道，但比较不熟悉用法，多看几个例句：
Our company's workforce exceeds 2,000 people. 我们公司的员工超过两千人。
Graduate employees are entering the workforce with too few business skills. 大学毕业生进入职场时，商业技能都非常有限。
Schools are working with businesses to fill gaps in the workforce. 学校曾以企业合作来填补学校和职场的落差。
3. 进入门槛／敲门砖
错误：show the door
正确：Get a foot in the door
社会新鲜人没有工作经验，对第一份工作的选择，经常是为了以后在特定的产业站稳脚跟。英文里有一说法叫“get a foot in the door"，意即找到相关领域的第一份工作。过去业务员挨家挨户推销产品，当客户把门打开后，聪明的业务员会把一只脚伸进门里，避免对方把门关上，这就是get a foot in the door。而Show the door，告诉人们在哪里，表面上好像是指引一条道路，其实是「命令某人离开、下逐客令、解雇」。
学会用法：
An internship might not sound very interesting, but it's a great way to get your foot in the door at this company. 实习也许没有那么有趣，但这是你进入这家公司的好机会。
Although the pay was low, he accepted the job because it allowed him to get his foot in the door. 虽然薪水很低，但他还是接受了这份工作，因为这份工作能帮他先迈进此领域的门槛。
